Can you believe we are already talking about fall? This summer flew by, but was filled with wonderful weather and great beach days. I love summer, but I cannot wait to start dressing in layers and decorating the house. This summer I have been wearing Lilly and bright colors everyday. I am craving cozy cashmere sweater weather! I wore pants this past week for the first time since May and my legs broke out in rashes all over. Even my body is rejecting cooler weather months! This fall brings changes in weather, wardrobe and our personal lives. This fall starts a new chapter for me and I hope for you too! Go get yourself a PSL and enjoy the change in leaves and weather. Hello, August
Make Way for Chambray
red, white, & a fun filled weekend!
When I say I have been planning for the Fourth of July since January, I am not kidding!
For work I will be organizing my towns Fourth of July parade, which is a really really realllly big deal! I have 58 groups, 4 marching bands, 35 automobiles and an alarm set for 5:30am for Monday morning. I have spent hours this week finalizing plans and small details for the parade day. I will be posting another post hopefully sharing my adventures on the Fourth!
Sunday is technically the only day I have off and I plan on enjoying every single moment of it. Today is the first time in weeks I have not had to set my alarm and now I am in bed blogging to start the day. I wish every day started like this!
Be sure to go back and check out my Memorial Day blog post for some party inspiration!
The week leading up to the Fourth I was very patriotic in my outfits!
I have had this dress on my wish list for a while now and even wrote about it here. It was on the clearance rack for $7 at Old Navy and it is adorable but comfortable for work. Right now they are out of this print online but I encourage you to go to the store and buy this style in every print! Right now (Saturday only) dresses at Old Navy are only $8. Keep an eye out for similar sales towards the end of summer. A lot of my favorite work dresses are from Old Navy and have lasted for many seasons.

At work on Friday I really got into the season with a dress I wear every Fourth and Memorial Day! It’s a navy blue stretch dress with poka dots making it so much fun to wear to work. It is old from Banana Republic but right now the whole store is on sale so go now to stock up on work dresses! Banana Republic always has classics to wear to work that you can wear for many years and never go out of style. I paired my dress with sandals from Gap and my red Ray Bans. It is really hard to hide my American Pride this week!
Be sure to run to Old Navy today to pick up your Fourth of July shirts! For years they just sold the white shirts or tank tops holiday shirts, but now they are more creative (and adorable!). As always, they are super cheap and make a great holiday outfit!

On Saturday I had a few hours by the pool in my new favorite patriotic bikini from Target. The best thing about Target is that they are affordable and have styles for everyones body type. While I love swim from VS I feel like my body type does not always fit in their styles. They have a whole line of patriotic swimwear in different styles to fit your body type. Mine is perfect for flat chested gals like me but they make tops for more support if you need it. This swim is adorable and will be worn for many summers to come! Hurry to Target before they are all sold out!
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
Red, White, Blue & the Crew
Every year I look forward to this long weekend because it is the beginning of summer. Now that I am an adult it is a reminder that summer is no longer a holiday but just another season. In years past, I would spend hours on the beach everyday, but those days are officially over. Now MDW is a little more significant because it is a little vacation from the adulting world! I did not go anywhere for the holiday but we never do since our front yard is the beach so we stay at home and do some Benny watching. Being an adult with a job it is really difficult to get friends together since we all live different lives and have our own struggles. I was so happy to learn that a lot of my college friends could make the time over the weekend to drive a few hours to come to the beach for the weekend.

I had to work on Saturday morning but I spent the majority of the week getting the backyard cleaned up and ready for guests. I love my backyard because to me it does not feel like just a regular backyard but a little vacation paradise. Unfortunately, for it to look like that it takes a lot of work like weeding, picking up leaves and vacuuming. (Yes, I am that crazy person who vacuums her sidewalk) All of the work paid off because once the summer table and chairs were brought out and decorated it was everything I wanted it to be!
How to Throw a Dinner Party Like a Real Adult
In college throwing a party involved cheap pizza and beer but now that I am an adult I want to have more grown up parties. For years I helped my mom set up for her parties and every little detail was perfect! There is no greater pleasure than finding a reason to throw a party and spend time with friends. Right now in life it is very difficult to get all of my old college friends together. A lot of them moved to different states, started jobs, went back to school and are busy trying to figure out this whole real world thing! But by throwing a dinner party with enough time in advance to get everyone together to sit around a table, drink, enjoy great food, and laugh until it hurts!
Dinner Party Tips
- Bring a host/hostess gift
The best way to show appreciation is by bringing a little something for the host/hostess. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or expensive, but try not to show up empty handed. My friends brought me fresh sunflowers and unique drinks we had never had before which are small gestures but meant so much to me! - Make a seating chart
To avoid awkwardness when deciding where to sit or friends not sitting together take an extra minute when setting up to make name cards. It helps the conversation flow better and helps people who may not know each other start a conversation. - Have the food prepped and ready
Conversation goes smoothly when people don’t have to keep getting interrupted or getting up when food is being cooked or served. If it is your party you want to be there and not in the kitchen! - Set the table the night before
You will be running around trying to finish everything the day of so make sure the table is set so you can have one last thing to worry about. People will always come early so when they do it at least looks like you are ready!

I was inspired to put together a Memorial Day themed table-scape to celebrate the start of summer. Living at home means I have all of my mothers linens and dishes to use (and there is a lot!).I went to Target as well to pick up a few decorations to add some of my personal touch to the decor as well. The dollar bin accidentally turned into the $30 bin but it was so worth it! Once I have a theme I cannot resist adding a few things here and there to make it complete!
Table Details: blue plates are old but similar here, white bowls are on major sale here, Anchor Large Glass Water Carafe, candle holders, ceramic stars, decorative pillows, medium size candle holder, vase, sunflowers from Wegmans, tablecloth , runner (old material folded to look like a runner)

Of course, we cannot forget the alcohol!

Bar Details: Gin & Tonic, Passion Fruit Kicker, Hi!, Domaine Chandon Blanc de Noirs – Party Edition, Blue Ice Bucket (old from Costco), Table cloth (A twin sheet), Chalkboard (Target dollar bin)
And finally… have fun!
Of course there are things I could have done better, could have planned better and should have done! But my friends were so sweet and appreciative of the weekend because in the end we were all together. On Saturday night we sat around my backyard for hours talking until we realized it was almost midnight and we still were in our bathing suits.

Spending the day with Chip & Joanna at Magnolia Market

On a Saturday a few months ago I woke up really sick and was confined to the couch all day with a box of tissues. I put on HGTV and started an all day binge watch of the HGTV show Fixer Upper. After just one episode I fell in love with the show. When our family trip to Texas was getting closer I started planning the sites to see and things to do. Texas is a very large state. I mean like it is a few hour drive or a plane ride to get to another city large! In New Jersey, in an hour you can be in NYC or Philadelphia! We had to be strategic and smart with our sightseeing while in Texas. But then I remembered that Fixer Upper was filmed in Waco, Texas. I started to do some research and learned it was only a two hour drive from where we were staying.
On a rainy and chilly Wednesday we got in the car and started our drive to Waco, Texas. More specifically, we were on our way to Magnolia Market, the shop that the Fixer Upper co-stars own and work at on the show.
While I was there I “checked in” on Facebook and a lot of friends were intrigued and jealous! I thought I would share some photos of Magnolia Market with you along with what I purchased and some items on my wishlist! Continue reading “Spending the day with Chip & Joanna at Magnolia Market”
