with love

I have always had a special love for Paris.

I have never been.  I barely passed French I in high school.

Even though Paris is so far away, I have a love for this city that I cannot describe. My bedroom is a French theme, making it feel like a hotel in Paris. I cannot wait to walk these city streets, single or with a guy.

I look at my Paris prints on the wall every day and wish more than ever I could be there today.

The recent events in Paris are breaking my heart. I have hope that it will  be the bright, shiny city of lights once again.

Pray for Paris.

a little piece of paradise

Our house is a work in progress. When you buy an old house it turns into a million projects and a lot of work. We bought our house in 2005 and then we put our focus on my brother and my education. At the end of the day we didn’t have the funds needed to update the house like we planned. When we first bought the house it was abandoned for a few years and was very 1970s. SO much shag carpeting!! After graduating college in May I came home and started working at a great job. I would be home at 5 and found myself bored out of my mind. At school I was busy all day and all night. Then I found myself with no papers to write or topics to study. One weekend I was very bored and it was a crappy beach day. There is an awkward landing / room in my house that you have to walk through to get into my room. It was this blah color and was just used for storage while accumulating laundry. I got inspired to redo the room and since it did not have much furniture it was easy to get started. The room color was actually a mistake purchase we made while trying to get a blue for our new bathroom. We had a gallon of this turquoise blue in the basement just waiting to be used!  In the basement we had these two big white bookcases so I brought them upstairs. My mother and I have a thing about collecting magazines. My mother has years worth of Martha Stewart magazines and they were just sitting in a box so I got inspired to use them to decorate the bookcase. I had a lot of fun of strategically placing each item on the bookcase. A lot of the stuff we had was stuff laying around the house.
This fireplace is actually a fake one! It weights like eight pound and you can easily move it around. It has been in my parents lives for years!! I love that it has its own special place in this room. The mirror was a HomeGoods find! It was in clearance for $20 because there was a small chip in the corner but with a strategically placed photo you cannot even tell!
When I came back home from college and moved back home with mom and dad I had a lot of stuff. Like a lot! My bedroom theme in Philly was beach and blue. So I had a lot of stuff that I could reuse in this room.  Found this beauty for $3 at Goodwill!
I am a big clearance shopper and like to stroll around Goodwill for cute house decorations. These are some of my finds that really make the room beachy!   Thi

This pineapple is also one of my favorites of the room! It was $2 from Goodwill and when I saw it I had to have it!

This room inspired me to take on other rooms in the house. More posts will be uploaded soon. All of this projects take time and planning but I find it to be the highlight of my day. It is so nice to take a room and redo it to make it beautiful! We have a lot of rooms in the house so there is weeks of cleaning, organizing and decorating to do!

happy fall y’all

Okay so I am getting really sad lately because wherever I go I am overwhelmed with Christmas. Even my Wegmans has their Christmas trees out front and the store is decorated inside. I love Christmas of course, but I am not ready to say goodbye to fall yet!! Here are some photos of an adventure I had during early fall. Even getting apples and pumpkins for the front porch is a fun fall activity. Of course this fall the weather has been so crazy. The day I went to Delicious Orchards I had a cute fall outfit  picked out and it felt like it was eighty degrees out! But whatever, the outfit was adorbs!  If only I could take all of these pumpkins home with me but I am sure my parents would kick me to the curb!

How many pumpkins is too many??

The front door looks adorable! So happy we have some natural leaves to add to the theme! Hehe
Look at who snuck into the photo! There are days Kitty is sleeping and hiding all day while others he has to be in the way. But since he is so adorable he can photobomb my pictures anytime!I took some photos of the house decorated for fall. Since taking these photos I have changed it up a gazillion times just because it is so much fun!
I love my job because I get to craft all day. I got to do some graphics and marketing for the towns fall events.

you know you love me xoxo philly

On Sunday the family and I drove down to Philly for the day to go to the art museum for my moms birthday. Philly is a city that has history for all of us so it always nice to visit. I went to college for four years in Philadelphia and my mom went to PCOM for optometry school while my parents were married for a few years. It is great because this city feels like home for the three of us! 7980911406_50dfabf1af

We were lucky that we have a great city just an hour away from us! Since the Pope was recently there the LOVE Philly logo statue was changed to “AMOR” to honor the Pope. Of course we had to get a photo! I hope we can take advantage of day trips more often because it was a great time with the family. We went to the Philadelphia Art Museum which is a must see if you go to Philly! Again I fell in love with Monet. I was staring at one of his paintings for about fifteen minutes just memorized by the beauty of the brushstrokes. There was Picasso, Michelangelo and Da Vinci!

See you again, Philly!

Okay so I recently did an adult thing. It is one of those things that involves a lot of paperwork and negotiating but is completely worth it in the end!  I had to choose dream college or car in high school and decided to go to my dream school in the city. It is not a decision I regret at all but I always wished that I had a car of my own. It was always a pain in the butt to ask friends and parents for rides or arrange car pooling.

It is really exciting to make a big purchase all on my own. Obvi my parents came with me but this is entirely all in my own name. This is definitely a big milestone in my life. I am so excited!! I mean look how cute it is! I am literally in love.

sometimes I get to play in the sand at work

After a month of planning inside my warm office at my desk it was time to get this project started. My office put me in charge of organizing the volunteers for the sand dune grass planting on our beach. We had to plant 10,000 sand dune grasses in two weeks bit did not have the man power to do it within our office. So I made up some cute flyers and did some marketing work to get the word out. Within days we had dozens up people calling and signing up to help.

Below is a press release I wrote up to submit to a local newspaper. I know it may not seem like much but dunes are a big reason why our beaches and town survived Hurricane Sandy. While our town did get some damage and we lost our pier, without those dunes we would have been under water.

DSCF3911Even in the off season the  boardwalk is busy with people in the morning. Joggers and walkers getting their morning exercise, people walking their dogs, and people who just want to see the sunrise. People come to the beach and boardwalk for many reasons in the off season even if it is not ideal swimming and sun bathing weather. The week of October 20th there was something unusual happening on the beach which caught people’s attention. There were around twenty people kneeling on the beach with others carrying flags and umbrella poles every day. It was definitely a scene that caused many people to walk by and ask questions.

The town was organizing a sand dune grass planting project to help rebuild the sand dunes that were destroyed from Hurricane Sandy. We can credit the sand dune grass for protecting our town and minimizing the damage that occurred in town.

This project took more than a year to plan with many dedicated employees and volunteers needed to make it happen. Signs went up in town and  residents came together to help. In one week over 120 volunteers came to the beach to plant 10,000 dune grass plants. Volunteers worked hard never complaining about the cold weather or the sand in their shoes. They kept the optimism and energy going to keep planting. Teams of volunteers worked for three hour shifts each morning, planting 100 feet or more per day. * Names, town and my job were removed from article for privacy.
