currently-reading

Call me crazy but I love to read for pleasure. In college I spent too many hours reading hundreds of pages of research, articles and books for classes. In the summer I would have a book with me constantly and living on the beach makes the best place to read.

But now that I am out of school and I have no deadlines to read a 300 page book by the end of the week, Netflix in bed is a lot more tempting than reading before bed. I have so many books started but no interest to finish them. But lately I picked up a book and could not put it down!

I am currently obsessed with The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. It is an easy read with a mystery that doesn’t get solved until the last few pages. It is definitely a page turner!  And good news, the movie comes out in October so here is the deadline to finish it by if you are one of those people that NEEDS to read the book before seeing the movie like I am! traingirl.jpg

are we out of the woods yet?

IMG_5814.JPGWhen I was growing up I spent a lot of time at our cabin in the Poconos that we shared with a few other families. In the winter we would go up there and ski and I would pretend I knew how to snowboard while my parents stayed warm in the ski lodge watching my brother and I fall and then fall again. I have also driven to Pittsburgh, PA more times than I can count! This past weekend two of my favorite things came together, I was invited on a trip to a cabin outside of Pittsburgh in the Seven Springs are.

I forgot how nice it is to just relax with friends in the outdoors. It felt like we were in the middle of nowhere and at night you could see all of the stars above. Living in New Jersey on the coast I feel like I am always going to Point A to Point B. My routine is so perfectly mapped out to make sure I get everything done. Am I the only one who schedules when they shower??  There is just something about being in the woods that refreshes your body and spirit.

Unfortunately with my job it does not allow many days off for me to go on vacations but weekend trips are so much fun! Sometimes just getting away for the weekend is enough to feel like a relaxing vacation. This Monday was rough getting up for work after too much fun and lack of sleep over the weekend. But the exhaustion was worth a fun weekend with some new & old friends! I encourage everyone to grab some friends and get away for the weekend. I promise you won’t regret it!

Spring Break Essentials

The only thing worse than having to go to class in nice weather, is having to work all day in nice weather! Since in the real world there is no spring break, I am day dreaming about being on an island somewhere and not at my desk. I am also sharing some spring break essentials in case you are lucky enough to be going somewhere. Hope everyone is enjoying this nice warm weather while it lasts!

let’s talk about rejection

rejected-clipart-1

We have all been rejected once (or twice… or a hundred) times by now in our lives. We have been rejected from a crush, from a class we were trying so hard to get into in college. We have been rejected in many different forms and some are not all that bad. Rejection doesn’t mean that what you have to offer isn’t valuable. It just means you’re trying to give it to the wrong person.

But what do you do when the entire plan you had figured out for your life gets rejected? Recently I received a letter that I did not get a job in a program that I have been planning to work in since I was six years old. Okay, I cried and got over it. But now what is plan b?

There is a freedom that comes with not knowing what you are going to be doing next month, next year, or even in 5 years! I have no idea what I am doing with my life but I am weirdly okay not knowing the path I am going to take. I am a little too collectively calm not knowing what the heck I am going to do.

I have been working since I was 14 years old and I have been at my job now for almost a year in June. This job was supposed to be temporary but now I found myself working in a business rather than a nonprofit helping kids (which is what I told people I would be doing with my life since I could talk). A lot of my friends are in serious relationships, traveling the world, are back at school getting their Masters, or are kicking butt at their jobs. I am not and that is okay!

It’s hard to believe that I am a college graduate with a full time job and balancing paying bills, juggling a social life while trying to catch up on sleep. I know I am very lucky to say I have a full time job that I love even if it does not pay much and it is not in my field. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have a flexible job to take off whenever and figure out what I want to do. Last June I started the process to get into a program and it did not work out. Once again I have the freedom and opportunity to decide what I want to do with my life. This freedom only comes a few times in life so instead of stressing, I am enjoying every minute of saying I don’t know.

Hello, March

Is it just me or did February feel like the month that would never end? It really was forever and a day thanks to Leap Year! At least we are one more month closer to spring. It is time to start switching out wardrobes, decorating the house for spring and planning for fun adventures in March!

Work: Step one of things to do this month is change your desktop wallpaper. Who knows the last time it was changed?! But instead of making it a collage of friends or cute puppies, make it something that is actually practical for work. Say what you want about her but this girl has a good website of useful things. Or I should say, she pays a lot of people money to make a good website for the millennial girl in the workforce today.

Gym: Sign up at Influenster and take advantage of their Target C9 campaign. Join the challenge and you can get 40% off a sports bra. I was able to use the coupon on a bra that was already on sale so it ended up being $3… win! There are more prizes if you post it to social media accounts too!

Netflix: Currently binge watching/ obsessed with Friday Night Lights. It actually makes me miss high school and I hated high school. If you know nothing about football and want to learn about the sport, this show is the one for you!

Products I love: I am a very lazy person and in the winter it only gets worse. On an impulse buy I decided to get the new Nivea in shower body lotion body wash. I am in LOVE! My legs are hidden under pants all month long so my body needs some TLC! Say goodbye to dry skin and hello to hydration! Perfect for lazy people!

Home: This month I have made an effort to work on the relationships I have with people more. Reuniting with old friends, spending time with my parents and making new friends. It is a lot of effort but I have learned it is something that should always be a priority no matter how busy our life is.  I am so lucky to still be close to some college friends even though we are all moving in different directions struggling in our own post grad life struggles. I was able to surprise my parents with presents on Valentine’s Day which brings me more joy to be able to bring joy to others!
