currently-reading

Call me crazy but I love to read for pleasure. In college I spent too many hours reading hundreds of pages of research, articles and books for classes. In the summer I would have a book with me constantly and living on the beach makes the best place to read.

But now that I am out of school and I have no deadlines to read a 300 page book by the end of the week, Netflix in bed is a lot more tempting than reading before bed. I have so many books started but no interest to finish them. But lately I picked up a book and could not put it down!

I am currently obsessed with The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. It is an easy read with a mystery that doesn’t get solved until the last few pages. It is definitely a page turner!  And good news, the movie comes out in October so here is the deadline to finish it by if you are one of those people that NEEDS to read the book before seeing the movie like I am! traingirl.jpg

are we out of the woods yet?

IMG_5814.JPGWhen I was growing up I spent a lot of time at our cabin in the Poconos that we shared with a few other families. In the winter we would go up there and ski and I would pretend I knew how to snowboard while my parents stayed warm in the ski lodge watching my brother and I fall and then fall again. I have also driven to Pittsburgh, PA more times than I can count! This past weekend two of my favorite things came together, I was invited on a trip to a cabin outside of Pittsburgh in the Seven Springs are.

I forgot how nice it is to just relax with friends in the outdoors. It felt like we were in the middle of nowhere and at night you could see all of the stars above. Living in New Jersey on the coast I feel like I am always going to Point A to Point B. My routine is so perfectly mapped out to make sure I get everything done. Am I the only one who schedules when they shower??  There is just something about being in the woods that refreshes your body and spirit.

Unfortunately with my job it does not allow many days off for me to go on vacations but weekend trips are so much fun! Sometimes just getting away for the weekend is enough to feel like a relaxing vacation. This Monday was rough getting up for work after too much fun and lack of sleep over the weekend. But the exhaustion was worth a fun weekend with some new & old friends! I encourage everyone to grab some friends and get away for the weekend. I promise you won’t regret it!

Hello, March

Is it just me or did February feel like the month that would never end? It really was forever and a day thanks to Leap Year! At least we are one more month closer to spring. It is time to start switching out wardrobes, decorating the house for spring and planning for fun adventures in March!

Work: Step one of things to do this month is change your desktop wallpaper. Who knows the last time it was changed?! But instead of making it a collage of friends or cute puppies, make it something that is actually practical for work. Say what you want about her but this girl has a good website of useful things. Or I should say, she pays a lot of people money to make a good website for the millennial girl in the workforce today.

Gym: Sign up at Influenster and take advantage of their Target C9 campaign. Join the challenge and you can get 40% off a sports bra. I was able to use the coupon on a bra that was already on sale so it ended up being $3… win! There are more prizes if you post it to social media accounts too!

Netflix: Currently binge watching/ obsessed with Friday Night Lights. It actually makes me miss high school and I hated high school. If you know nothing about football and want to learn about the sport, this show is the one for you!

Products I love: I am a very lazy person and in the winter it only gets worse. On an impulse buy I decided to get the new Nivea in shower body lotion body wash. I am in LOVE! My legs are hidden under pants all month long so my body needs some TLC! Say goodbye to dry skin and hello to hydration! Perfect for lazy people!

Home: This month I have made an effort to work on the relationships I have with people more. Reuniting with old friends, spending time with my parents and making new friends. It is a lot of effort but I have learned it is something that should always be a priority no matter how busy our life is.  I am so lucky to still be close to some college friends even though we are all moving in different directions struggling in our own post grad life struggles. I was able to surprise my parents with presents on Valentine’s Day which brings me more joy to be able to bring joy to others!

Happy March, Everyone!

the more you love your decisions, the less you need others to love them

IMG_4255To start, I am not a religious person. My path of faith is different than everyone else’s and that is what makes faith so special. Not one persons faith is higher than the others, we are all just on different paths to the same thing.

Lent is a time we should be reflecting on our daily lives and how we can make ourselves better people. There are so many short cuts in life, ways to lie, distractions and ways to get in trouble. By taking the time to learn our faults, we can begin to become better people not just for ourselves but with the relationships we have with people.

Let’s talk money. I recently checked my bank statement and it is not where I would like it to be. I have enough in my savings and a steady income coming in to help cover my bills. Like most post grad lifers we have a lot of bills (student loan ugh) that we need to pay. My goal after graduating was to become financially independent and start taking on a bigger responsibility when it comes to my life. I bought a car in my name, pay my own car insurance and Nelnet will be the most consistent thing in my life for the next decade! What was I thinking?? I see more money coming out of my checking account than I would like. While balancing my checkbook (LOL who am I?!) I decided I needed to start budgeting better.

I love sales. I am really good at getting pretty things on sale and love to swipe my AmEx. For the next few months I am going to try to keep my AmEx in my wallet to collect some dust. When I see clearance or sale I need to just see what is there. It is not just with clothes or things but when I go food shopping as well. In my house I do the food shopping so I usually end up with tons of things I do not need in my cart.
