Celebrating My One Year in Philly

I remember my first week living in Philadelphia like it was yesterday. It was similar to that first night in my new dorm room each year at college. Lots of unknowns and a lot of what ifs with that feeling that something magical was about to happen. I can remember going to bed my first night and just smiling because I did it. For years I told myself and others that I would move back to Philly one day and I finally did it. In a two week span, I quit my job, signed a lease on an apartment and got the call that I got a job at a law firm in Philly. My life changed so quickly in just a few weeks that I remember having an out of the body experience with it all.

I barely slept the night before the move while sleeping in a guest bedroom because my bedroom was completely empty. At 3am I was still awake making to do lists and designing my apartment. Movers came to my childhood home on April 15th and in less than two hours all of my belongings and some furniture was put into a truck heading to Philly. My parents and I stood by the front door in the living room for a really long hug because this was the last time I would be calling this house home. My parents and I drove to my apartment in different cars and I remember being nervous, excited and so ready to start this new adventure on my drive down to Philly. For years, I had driven to Philly to see friends that I could do this drive with my eyes closed. For years, I would drive to Philly after work on a Saturday and be up early Sunday so I could get to work on time. Finally, I could call Philly home again and not have to drive back to Jersey. After two years of retail, I would have my weekends back working a normal Monday-Friday job. Having movers was the best decision we made because in less than 2 hours, they had my furniture set up and all of my boxes were in my living room. My mom and I had fun playing house unpacking boxes for my kitchen. Once they set up my bed, my mom immediately put sheets and decorative pillows on my bed so I could get a good nights sleep. I still had a hard time believing that this was my own home because it had been a dream for so long. After the movers finished up and were on their way, my parents and I went out to dinner to toast my new adventure. As we walked back to my apartment and to their car to go back to Jersey, we hugged one more time knowing that this is where I was supposed to be heading in life and that this was the right decision. It was hard to close the book on one chapter, but I am so happy I was brave to move to a new city on my own. As my parents headed back to Jersey, I went back up to my apartment and started to unpack some more boxes because I was excited to make this place my home.

I took some time recently to look back at some blog posts from this time last year and wow, a lot has changed in one year. Those first few months I struggled with being lonely, boredom , creating a routine and needing some help to build some furniture… Instead of worrying about what could go wrong, I put all of my energy into making Philly feel like home. I explored my new city, walked a lot of miles, decorated my new apartment, worked on blog collaborations and started to talk to a boy.

I spent my first few months learning how to live on my own, who I was and how to live in a city. I’m thankful for this blog because I can go back to old blog posts and read how I was feeling and growing as a person. I grew up a lot in the last year and learned a lot. My first few months here I was a little bored and now I have to plan a weekend to do absolutely nothing! I love being able to come home from work to my own apartment, sit on the couch in my matching pajamas and eat dinner. It’s those little moments that make me realize that I am really living in a city by myself. For some, that would be scary but to me this is a really big accomplishment.

This year has flown by and my life looks completely different than it did on April 14th of last year. I’m still exploring and trying new places here in Philly. There is always so much to do and never enough time. I cannot wait to see what this second year in Philly brings me.

Celebrating Spring with Fab Fit Fun

FabFitFun is one of those companies that have amazing marketing because these boxes are everywhere on social media! Usually, I just ignore the constant ads but when I saw the products that were actually in the boxes, I was a little more than interested. This is my fourth Fab Fit Fun box and each time I still get excited when I get one in the mail. There is a good mix of home items, beauty, fitness, and clothing in each box so there is something for everyone. One item in the box alone costs the same price as a fab fit fun box so it makes sense financially.

I love to shop so by subscribing to the fab fit fun boxes it gives me a few new items to enjoy that I would normally purchase anyway for the season. Are the boxes worth it? In my opinion, yes and here’s why.

  • If you want to get the current season’s fab fit fun box, subscribe right now and you will receive it at a discounted price with a promotional code. If you no longer want the boxes, you can easily unsubscribe without going through a million prompts to cancel.
  • I for one hate spending money on subscription boxes that are a surprise. Most of them have “free samples” that are tiny and can only be used once. Each season, you can the ability to pick what is in your box and everything is full size – no sample sizes are in the boxes!
  • The products are from brands that you are already familiar with. From high-end hair products to designer sunglasses, you know you can you are getting a good deal on the products included in the box.

Princess Style on a Budget

It’s not every day that you can dress like a Princess. Kate and Meghan have closets filled with beautiful designer clothes that this girl just cannot afford. I still love to obsess over what they are wearing and dream of one day owning a pair of those gorgeous heels. One of the reasons that I love Meghan Markle is because she is known for wearing classic pieces that can be worn again and again. Luckily for us, Meghan was just photographed recently wearing very chic sunglasses that were also very affordable. Of course, these under $100 sunglasses sold out within minutes of Meghan wearing them. I was able to find a $15 dupe for the sunglasses at Target. After a few weeks, I was thrilled to see they were restocked so I grabbed a pair as soon as possible. Be sure to grab a pair for yourself before they sell out again!

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a new beauty procedure that has everyone talking about it lately. I was a bit confused about what it was myself so I did some research because I’m always eager to try the next thing in skincare. Microneedling is a procedure that uses a derma roller with little tiny stainless steel needles to put holes in your skin. Sounds a bit scary but by creating little tiny holes, the skin naturally sends collagen to repair the little holes on your face. This extra collagen creates brighter, tighter and smoother skin. Right now I see a lot of people adding collagen powder to their coffee and smoothies and this is another natural way to add collagen to your skin.

You can get it done at the dermatologist for a fee or you can pick a microneedle up and do it yourself. You can also purchase a microneedle at Nordstrom so you can do it on your own time and see results within a week.

I was able to pick up a microneedle at Marshalls for under $10 to try before I committed to a more expensive one. I liked what this procedure was supposed to do but I was a bit afraid of the whole needles on my face thing. Best way to describe it is using a face scrub because it’s painless but you do feel a pinch. I’ve been using a microneedle on my face before adding a face serum before bed the last few days. It is said that if you microneedle your face before applying serums and night creams, the ingredients are able to penetrate your skin easier making them work better than before. So far, I am loving my microneedle and it only takes a minute or two to roll at night. After a few weeks, I have noticed that my skin is smoother and firmer.

Early Spring Beauty

Okay, so the weather outside may not feel like Spring but I am a big believer that if you believe it, it can happen! While organizing my vanity the other day, I decided it was time to swap out a few of my makeup products to get in the mood for Spring. My go-to look year long is usually shades of pinks and light colors, however in the Spring I like to add more shades of pink especially pastels. I also wanted to share that all of these products besides my mascara were purchased at TJ Maxx. It has turned into my go to store to buy makeup because you cannot beat the prices and they have a wide selection of higher end makeup. Sometimes I have to ask myself if I need another lip gloss or eye shadow palette but at these low prices I cannot say no! I would love to know what your favorite spring beauty are!

Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Eyeshadow Palette

This eyeshadow palette has 16 matte and shimmer shades of bright colors and go to neutrals making it easy to create a day or night look. The best part is that the eyeshadows smell like chocolate because of the cocoa powder formula. This eyeshadow palette is cute and ready for endless possibilities!

Better Than Sex Mascara

I love the look of barely there makeup during the warmer months. It makes getting ready in the morning and there’s less makeup to melt off in the heat! One product I use more of though is mascara to make sure my eyes are defined because of my blonde eyelashes. My skin usually cooperates so I can go makeup free but with just a little bit of mascara allows me to look a little more put together! With just a few coats of the Better Than Sex mascara, my lashes are full and long.

Liquidfied Lipstick

It’s a lipstick and a gloss in one product! I love to use this lipstick because it has a bold, creamy color that lasts for hours with the look of a high gloss shine. It’s one of my favorites to layer on top of a nude lipstick for more of a pop of color too!

La Creme Lip Cream

Another one of my go to lipsticks during this time of year. It is one of my favorites because it hydrates and has rich pigment so the color lasts all day. Instead of using a chapstick, a lipstick and then gloss – I get all three products in one!

All I Need is Mascara and Coffee

The best way to find out what my favorite beauty products are is to look at my vanity after a long week because it’s usually a mess with those products! These are some of my favorite mascaras that I constantly repurchase again and again and use daily.

I am constantly wearing more than one mascara at a time because I love the look of a high volume and lots of lashes. There are a lot of mascaras for sale and it can be daunting to pick just one. For me, I have a handful of favorites that I like to use everyday to the office or for a night out. I’ve tried the higher end mascaras and sure, I am impressed by many of them because they are worth the money. However, for those days at work when I don’t need a full face of makeup, my drugstore mascaras do the job perfectly! Most mornings, I just have time to make a cup of coffee and put on some mascara before I am out the door. Here are some of my favorite mascaras and why.

L’Oreal Butterfly Sculpt // This has been a favorite of mine for years because it gives your lashes the perfect fanned out look. It’s also perfect for bottom lashes because the brush is tiny so it’s not too much product.

Maybelline Falsies // Again, this is another favorite from high school because it’s affordable and works so well! The brush is round so it helps lift and shape the eyelashes for lots of volume. After a few coats, it definitely looks like fake lashes!

Maybelline Colossal Volume Express // This mascara was a recent purchase and has quickly turned into my everyday mascara for work. It’s not too much product so it works for daytime and with just a few applications I am good to go!

Lancome Monsiour Big // I love a good drugstore mascara but I can definitely tell the difference between a $30 mascara and an under $10 mascara. This mascara gives me big lashes and is worth every single penny. This mascara also lasts all day and doesn’t flake or smudge.

Too Faced Better Than Sex // Okay, so this is my favorite favorite mascara to use because nothing can compare to it. Instead of using multiple drug store mascaras at one time to get the perfect look, I just need three strokes of the Better Than Sex Mascara and I am good to go.

L’Oreal Lash Paradise // So if you don’t have $20 to drop on a mascara right now but love Better Than Sex, then Lash Paradise is the perfect dupe. L’Oreal definitely did some research and was able to create a mascara that was just as good as the original. Sure, it doesn’t last as long and it is a pain to take off at night, but for the cost it is definitely worth it!
