Easy Ways To Save Money

No one really talks about how much moving actually costs. Luckily a few months ago I started to cut back my spending to have more of a cushion in my checking account and thank goodness I did! There are costs of having to pay for two places, the usual moving fees like security deposit and such and then the actual moving costs. Once we found our dream home, I quickly noticed that more money was going out of my account than going to my savings account so I had to be really careful where I spent my money. Some things I have been doing recently to save money are…..

Try a “No Shop Month”

This normally would terrify me because I like to shop and I’m guilty of buying coffee instead of making my own for those mornings I am running late. But for July, I really did stick to it because I created a financial goal of being able to get our dream house. I knew that if I went to Target, I would buy things I wouldn’t need. I went to the food store with a list and only bought the essentials. There is always going to be something to eat in your kitchen so look again before you order food and there will always be something to wear in our closets.

Create a Coffee Station to Cut Back on Buying Coffee

I love my Starbucks but I can easily make a cup of Starbucks coffee for like 50 cents at home and bring it to work. To make my mornings easier, I have everything I need, coffee thermos, K Cups, Keurig machine filled with water and ready to go in the morning.

Review Monthly Spending

Take a look at where you shopped a lot the previous month and see what expenses you can cut. Spotify with ads is not the end of the world for a few months or check to see if your food apps automatically reload when they run low on funds. Try a month or two without a few things and see if you really miss them.

Create a List Before You Go To The Grocery Store

This is where I saw the most savings in July. Normally, I would stock up on the basics and food for dinners and lunch once a week. Instead of buying more food than I could eat in a week, I cut back and stocked up on pastas, tuna and frozen veggies since they don’t go bad. It’s not great long term but I was able to save money fast! It also helped knowing I was moving soon and didn’t want to waste food.

Meal Prep

I’m sure you are sick of everyone talking about meal prep but there is a reason why everyone does it. Because it works! Going to work with food helps prevent me from buying lunch at work and then buying dinner on nights when I’m too busy to spend time in the kitchen.

The Shoes I Can’t Stop Wearing This Summer

Stuart Weitzman cork heel (a Marshall’s find)// Under $60 Cork Heel

Lately, I have been on the hunt to find a neutral pair of shoes that I can wear with a lot of my outfits and can be worn from work to date night. My usual go to shoe has been the same 4 pairs of flats that I wear all the time to work. I got bored of the same shoes over and over again and wanted to get a neutral heel for when I have meetings and need to get dressed up. On a recent shopping trip, I found these cork heels from Stuart Weitzman and I love finding excuses to wear them. I’ve already worn them to a graduation, a fancy date night and wore them with white jeans to dress up an outfit. I found a pretty alternative cork heel at DSW that are under $60. These shoes really do go with everything and make a statement even if I am just wearing white jeans!

Comfortable Work Shoes at DSW

marc fisher caitlin pumps

New job means new shoes right? After a few weeks at my new job I’ve been wanting to get new shoes that I can wear to work. Of course they have to look cute but they also have to comfortable while I run around at work all day. Seriously, my Fitbit tracks close to 10,000 steps a day because I am always on the move. I wanted to get a heel that wouldn’t make my feet hurt after 20 minutes of wearing them. Luckily I found a pair of the Caitlin pumps by Marc Fisher. A part of me bought them because they were pink (duhh) but also because they have a blocked heel. After wearing them for a few days I can say that that these are the most comfortable shoes I own! I’ll be heading back to DSW shortly to pick up a few more pairs of these in different colors because the price point is also amazing! Like the saying goes, if the shoe fits (and is comfortable), buy it in every color!

shoes for the summer

After months of wearing the same black booties to work, I am so excited to start wearing my cute flats and sandals to work again! A while ago, I made a commitment to keep my shoe collection small and only purchase shoes that will last and be worn frequently. I’ve put together some of my favorite shoes that I wear constantly during the warmer months. Some are a splurge and others are super affordable. Below are some of my favorite shoes that I wear the most during the summer.

pink loafers ( mine are from H&M last spring, similar here)
Steve Madden Greece Sandal (dupe here)
Jack Rogers
Tory Burch Brown Flats
Block Heels
Tory Burch Miller Sandal

my favorite drugstore mascara and eyeliner

I haven’t done a product review in a while so I thought it was time to talk about one of my favorite products on the blog. Before I do a product review, I like to walk around my room and see what products are being used a lot lately or if I have any empty bottles in my bathroom trash because that is obviously a clear sign that it was one of my favorites. With my new job, I have had to adjust to new responsibilities and my alarm clock goes off earlier in the morning. Since I am usually in a rush, I only like to spend like 5 minutes getting ready so I’ve been using a quick flick of eyeliner and some mascara before heading out the door.

Lash Paradise eyeliner // Lash Paradise mascara

This drugstore mascara dupe has been compared to the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara and I have to say that I have used both and I have bought the Lash Paradise mascara again and again because I go through so many of them. Let’s talk about my lashes after I use the mascara for a minute. The length is unbelievable! My lashes are thick with just a few coats of mascara. There is no clumping so my lashes are left feeling smooth and airy making my lashes look almost naturally this dark and full. Ugh if only I woke up with lashes looking this good! LOL I was buying the Too Faced mascara for a while but always found excuses not to use it everyday because it was so expensive and I didn’t want to waste it on days I was just running errands or going to work. The Lash Paradise mascara does like the exact same thing and is only $9 so I use this mascara daily and don’t have to feel guilty when I run out and have to buy another one!

While picking up another tube of mascara at Target recently, I picked up the Lash Paradise eyeliner as well to try out and I have been really impressed so far! It has a super fine tip so it is so easy to put on even on mornings when I am rushing!

Gingham Work Wear

pink gingham pants

I am keeping this gingham theme going in today’s blog post. With the warmer temperatures, I have been excited to wear more color to the office and these pants have quickly become a favorite. My usual go to outfit for work is a pair of pixie pants from Old Navy so I was excited to pick up this new pattern. Now I wear these pink gingham pants at least once a week because they are so comfy and I can wear them with any top. The pants have a stretch material so they are comfortable so they can be worn all day without feeling uncomfortable which is a big must for me. They can easily be worn with my go to flats or with heels depending on how much walking around the office I plan on doing that day ha! ALSO exciting news – these pants just went to clearance so scoop them up on sale while you can!
