Friday Favorites 6.24

Always find time for the things that make you feel happy you are alive.

Hi friends! Back again to share some of my favorite things this week.

This week was the last week of school and while it was very busy, I tried to slow down to enjoy each moment and just hang out with the students. It’s been such a busy school year with new challenges but I’m eager to start planning for next year….after a very long nap!

In the last few weeks, we have made a few trips to Home Depot to completely redo the backyard. We are so lucky to have a backyard space in the city and it needed some love. We dug up the backyard and put down grass seed so now we have bright green grass. Herbs and flowers are planted so now we get to enjoy our beautiful backyard this summer! Right now I’m looking for a new patio set but haven’t found anything I love.

I was just saying this week that Jake and I have nothing to watch… and then I saw that a lot of our shows are coming back this month. Looks like we have a lot of tv to watch!

Recently published a product review on this foundation/primer/highlighter making it a great all in one product!

I’ve been using this sunscreen on my face every day and I can see a difference! Blends well so my face isn’t greasy or sticky and I can easily apply foundation on top.

Found this popular self tanning kit at Marshalls last week for under $20. I used it this week and it is easy to apply without any streaks and gives a great natural-looking tan.

  • We almost got a new pet, Drunk Carl. A bird that got stuck in our house for 12 hours but luckily we got him out!
  • Went to the movies and saw Lightyear. We laughed because there were only people our age in the theater and no kids LOL!
  • Stopped for froyo at The Igloo on our way home from the movies over the weekend.
  • Hosting a little dinner party with friends to celebrate the end of the school year. I’m so excited to have people over!
  • My summer vacation officially starts today 🙂

Summer Makeup Look for Everyday with Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter

Once the weather starts to get warmer, I need to change up my makeup products to stay put with the heat and sweat during the summer months. The first step is to have a good daily moisturizer to use after you wash your face. I never put on any face makeup without properly washing my face and applying a moisturizer. Foundation looks and feels better on your face when it is properly hydrated. I’ve been using this face moisturizer in the mornings. I’ve been using this foundation the last few weeks during those really hot days. The foundation is actually a multipurpose primer and highlighter so when applied to your skin, you can easily blend the product to be a full coverage or light coverage depending on what you need. Great for those “no makeup” days when you don’t want to wear makeup but want a little glow. This bottle contains magic because my face is poreless and glowy like an Instagram filter when I use it!

If you are looking for more coverage, you can blend it with your foundation on your brush or makeup sponge before applying. To get that dewy look, use the applicator to use as you would with a brush with a highlighter compact dabbing along the areas you would like to highlight such as the top of your nose, cheekbones, chin, etc. I then lightly dab with a makeup brush and apply face powder lightly around my face for some light coverage.

I’ve been grabbing the Flawless Filter more and more since you can’t go wrong with a dewy look that looks fresh all day even after a long 12-hour day!

Friday Favorites 6.10

When you start to do the things that you truly love, it wouldn’t matter whether it’s Monday or Friday; you would be so excited to wake up each morning to work on your passions.

Oh hi, hello! It’s been a while since I shared a few of my favorite things. I hope everyone had a good week and has fun plans for this weekend. It’s the final weeks of school and I’m filling up my weekends with fun plans to enjoy this beautiful weather.

It’s been a while since I shared what I’ve been watching!

Anatomy of a Scandal on Netflix is must-watch with an unexpected turn at the end!

The Time Traveler’s Wife on HBO might be better than the movie…

Pivoting on HULU and Fox quickly became one of my favorites and is fighting for a second season!

Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ is something I didn’t ask for but it might just be better than the movies?

Using a new foundation for the last few weeks that I have been loving. Lancome gifted me their new perfume that smells sweet and perfect for summer!

We just planted grass in our backyard a few weeks ago and now our yard is so green!

This candle smells pretty and looks pretty on the coffee table.

Had to buy these biscuit cutters after watching too many cooking shows!

I have these block heels in black and recenlty picked up the white ones.

Picked up a few of these pillows for the bedroom because they are SO soft.

Choosing a Scent with Lancome

I remember being in high school and being obsessed with perfume samples in magazines. Finally in college, I saved up my money to purchase a perfume and wore it sparingly because I didn’t want to run out! Since then, I have picked up a few more fragrances to try and it’s one of my favorite splurges. I usually “gift” myself a new perfume to myself around Christmas and my birthday. Luckily, I now have Jake who pays attention when I talk about a perfume I like a lot around him so he gets the hint about which one I’m loving at the moment!

A few weeks ago, I got a surprise PR package from Lancome with their new La vie est belle Oui perfume. I have been using La vie est belle perfume for years and even have a bottle at my parent’s house because I kept bringing mine back and forth every visit so my mom gave me another one! Oui is a bright and floral fragrance making it perfect for every day, not just special occasions! And how cute is the bottle?! It looks so chic and cute on my dresser! I’m a fan of Lancome fragrances because the scent lasts all day without being overwhelming. The new fragrance, Oui, has hints of sweet iris, rose and jasmine.

On a busy day there is Too Faced Born This Way Foundation that can keep up!

Is anyone else going through a busy season right now? Right now, work is extra busy as we get to the end of the school year and with the warmer weather, my social calendar is filling up very quickly! This means less time to get ready in the morning before work and I need makeup to stay in place all day. My morning starts with Zoom meetings before I transition into in-person meetings at school before we kickoff program at 2pm. Then I’m running around trying to keep up with the kids and going to dinner with friends after work if I’m not running errands! My week days are exhausting and my weekends are filled with fun things to do so I need makeup that can keep up with my busy schedule. More and more, I have been reaching for this foundation because I know it can keep up and stay put without fading or getting oily. While I love using drugstore foundations, this time of year when it’s hot one day and chilly the next, I like to use my higher end products because of the dewy, poreless glow this foundation gives me no matter the weather. A little bit goes a long way which makes it worth every single penny!

I love this foundation so much! The coverage is great without looking too heavy and it is very long wearing perfect for the working girl. Besides getting a preless dewy look, I also love how easy it is to blend which is super helpful in the morning when I’m rushing to get ready! Let me know if you are a fan in the comments below.

out and about and tired (but it’s worth it!)

Recently, I found my social calendar packed with plans with family and friends. So much so that after almost three years now of limited social interactions, work meetings on Zooms, and usually staying in on the weekends, my body started to feel the change physically. As most busy schedules happen, it started off slowly with making plans for a Saturday event a few months back and completely forgetting about it until the week before when I got an email reminder. Right now, my Saturdays are about what I want to do, not what I need to do, but I knew the change of plans would be a nice change of pace. However, the purpose of the event was “team building” with Philly youth and since ice breakers are my version of hell, I thought this is going to be exhausting. I admit I cried a little as I had to be up and out of the house before 8am on a Saturday morning but 5 hours later, I was happy I went out of my comfort zone and did it. I felt like I needed a week off to recuperate after the physical and social demands of me. On Sunday, we walked down the street to a street festival, Plazapalooza, to walk around and have dinner. During the before times (before Covid), street festivals were an every weekend thing during the Spring and Summer here in Philadelphia. With one so close and back after two years, I wanted to make the effort and attend. Jake and I laughed going to bed that night trying to remember the last time we were busy with plans Saturday and Sunday. Clearly, it had been a long time. That week, my parents came to visit for a few days. I could only move my work schedule around so much so we made plans to go to lunch at Reading Terminal Market before I had to head home and jump back on Zoom work calls. At night, we took my parents to some of our favorite restaurants in our little neighborhood, Grace Tavern and, Pub & Kitchen. A bing popped up on my calendar on Thursday to remind me of an important breakfast work meeting in the city. As we all said goodbye and waited for the valet to bring our cars around, I wondered if working from home may be a thing of the past. My parents left Friday morning after I got home from breakfast and at that point, I was craving a healthy meal after eating out so much that week. That healthy dinner would have to wait because a work friend invited herself over and wanted to go out for tacos and margaritas because it had been honestly been a long week and we all needed it! So the two of us and Jake walked to El Rey for two pitchers of margaritas and tacos as we talked and laughed until the place closed down. We made the walk back to my house and continued to talk until 3 am. At one point in my life, this was a usual Friday night routine for me, but in my old age ( and my body learning that it loved an early bedtime during quarantine) I was tired! That Saturday, Jake was the one who had signed us up to volunteer to help at a 5k months ago. Why is it that when you make plans months in advance, you still don’t plan your week around them better? We had to be up and out of the house before 7am to get there in time and it was also a 90 + degree day so we were feeling the exhaustion a little more that day. We got lunch with friends who were also at the event and finally headed home later that day. On Sunday, my parents were stopping by to stay over for a night before they headed back to North Carolina and Jake had to pack and get ready for his train that afternoon to head to New York City for the week for a work trip.

This past week, it was just Ed and I at home, and the quiet home was appreciated more than ever after a few busy weeks. During quarantine, mostly out of boredom, I redesigned our home to make it comfy and calming. Each piece of furniture and throw blanket, piece of artwork, and candle are intentionally placed to make the space easy to tidy and feel welcoming as you walk in. My home has become one of my favorite places to be especially after a long day. I wasn’t always like this. I hated being home and felt like I was missing out on something if I stayed home. Now I feel like I’ve given myself and my body permission to rest, to be bored and to enjoy the lack of social plans. Now when I do have a busy day, weekend or even a workweek, I get to enjoy the business because I know that I can give myself a quiet weekend another day. With summer officially here, we are not slowing down anytime soon. Take the time now to schedule a vacation, a break, or block out time to not be connected to work or the internet. Sign up for a fitness class, a meal prep service, or just buy a fun water bottle to keep you hydrated. Plan a weekend to redecorate your bedroom or living space so when you come home, it really feels like coming home.
