I know my days are numbered living with my parents, so I have been in the process of getting rid of clutter, personal belongings and trying to get my entire life to fit in a little U Hual truck. I have donated two pieces of furniture so far and I only plan on taking my bed with me at this time. I have been really good at getting rid of things, but that does’t mean my bedroom can’t have some personality! I have plans to do a bedroom reveal because since Christmas, my room has gone through an amazing renovation. In December, I did a major purge and most of my belongings are either at Goodwill or in boxes in my basement ready for the big move.
I have a Pinterest board of ideas for my new bedroom at my next apartment, but not knowing where I will live or how big the space will be makes purchasing items for it a bit tricky. I did recently purchase a new pink carpet, but if it doesn’t fit in my new place I can easily leave it at my parents house.
Moving back home after college was a bit of a rough decision, but it was the right choice at that time. I’ve been working on making my (childhood) bedroom a cozy and chic place that is filled with personality, but not overflowing with clutter and childhood belongings. I spend a lot of time in my bedroom and I want it to be a relaxing place that I enjoy to be in.
One of the easiest ways to transform a bedroom is by investing in a new duvet. Once you get a new duvet for your bed, you’ll be surprised how fast it can change a room. And after 48 hours of me switching out my winter bedding for this new spring bedding, I was finding items around my house to add to my bedroom that went with this new look. Luckily my basement is a plethora of furniture and home decor so I am always going down there to look for new things.
I bought this duvet back in January when I was at Ikea and have been waiting impatiently to put it on my bed. I was in love with my winter duvet from Martha Stewart, but this Ikea grey gingham is perfect for spring and summer! And doesn’t the new pink carpeting look fantastic with the new bedding?? 😉

I love the color pink, but I didn’t want my bedroom to look like a little girls bedroom. So with the right shade of blush pink, white and grey I can set the tone for a soothing bedroom. The wall color is a light tan color that gives it a nice tone, but isn’t overpowering in the space. I have been obsessed with the color white and even painted my brown vanity white because it brings so much light into a room. An entire wall on my bedroom is all windows, so it provides lots of natural lighting, and with the white duvet and pillows, my bed looks bright and cheerful when the sun bounces off of it.
The tufted headboard has been on my wishlist for many years, and for my birthday I finally got one. It is also easy to take apart making it easy to transport for the future move, which is a plus. I spent hours looking online for the perfect shape, design and size and fell in love with this one. I found this one on Overstock and I am very pleased with it since it was only $100- best part is that I can easily buy a new one if it gets stained or looks worn and I won’t feel like I lost money. A tufted headboard is now the focus of my bedroom and adds some big girl elegance to the room. With the headboard it is a big girl bed, but with the touches of pink in the room it still has my personality in it.
I don’t know what I can take with me during the move, so I haven’t invested money in lamps or bedroom accessories because I know I can just buy them wherever I move to. But what I do have in my bedroom are family antiques or Goodwill finds. You will be surprised by how many things in my bedroom are from Goodwill and lot of them are Pottery Barn or Pottery Barn dupes. It takes some hunting, but at the right Goodwill store you can find some gems. Most importantly, I won’t hurt me financially if I can’t bring them with me to the new place.
